We all need to find inspiration sometimes, so I thought I’d share with you some of the places and ideas that I find inspirational!

🌿 Today’s inspiration comes from a trip to one of my local garden centres.  As well as enjoying seeing the plethora of different plants that were available, I also appreciated how organised the displays were.

Noticing all the rows of plants it struck me that, although there were many duplicates, no two plants could possibly grow in exactly the same way.  Similarly, it would be impossible for two musicians to learn and grow in exactly the same way!

🌹 Looking at the abundance of roses I noticed just how many new varieties there were and how they were happily sitting alongside the more established ones. They were all beautiful in their own way.

In that moment I was glad to be able to consider how both old and new music can also sit happily alongside each other. All music has a place and a purpose.

🎶 As a composer, it can sometimes feel like there’s already enough music out there and, on some days, it can seem like there’s no point adding more to it!  Seeing so many different plants and varieties helped restore my belief that, due to our diversity and evolution, we will always need new music!

Can you imagine what would happen to the world if nobody ever composed another piece?!
