Find a Moment to Dream is a collection of 12 piano solos suitable for pianists that are Grade 4 - 5 / Intermediate and above.  Each piece has been carefully composed to promote piano technique, musicality and well-being. 
 
The theme of the collection is dreaming, whether that is being Lost in a Reverie, being Halfway Across the Rainbow or in A Castle in the Clouds; each piece focuses on playing and hearing relaxing piano pieces that boost your mood as you progress on your musical journey.  

 
A Moment to Dream is peaceful, tranquil and meditative.
 
The flowing pianistic left hand ostinato-style quavers / eighth notes provide a calming layer for flurries of semiquaver / sixteenth notes and demisemiquaver / thirtysecond notes to dance over.  Low open fifth pedal chords with cluster chords rising above them provide a contrast during the middle section as the nature of the dream changes.

Be Curious and Look to the Stars evokes an other-worldly, mysterious and thought-provoking feel.  
 
The minimalist style patterns combined with the haunting right hand melody, and a range of 5 octaves, help to build an exploratory atmosphere inspired by the quote by Stephen Hawking.

The Movie in Your Mind is contemplative, lilting and has a whimsical air.
 
The waltz-like feel helps create a playful yet nostalgic feel that is contrasted by a stronger sense of movement in the second section with consistent flowing quaver / eighth note passages.

Beneath the Moonlit Sky  is atmospheric, mysterious and has a sense of awe.
 
The hypnotic continuous quaver / eighth note motifs in the left hand provide a soothing texture for the right hand repetitive motives to sparkle over the top of to create an air of mystery and intrigue.

Lost in a Reverie is nostalgic, contemplative and enigmatic.
 
The mix of syncopation and flurries of semiquavers / sixteenth notes helps create a dream-like quality that is further underpinned by the use of major second chords in the left hand that help to create suspended harmonies.

Focus: To work on rhythm, chord placement, finger dexterity

 
Once Upon a Dream is dreamlike, optimistic and conveys an inner-strength.  
 
The left hand crossing over the right is contrasted with flowing pianistic patterns that the lyrical right hand melody, with elements of syncopation, rises above.

Focus: To work on finger strength, maintaining a consistent pulse, spatial awareness

 
Fantasy Lands is majestic, mysterious and has a spacious feel.
 
The use of low pedal note octaves throughout create an air of stability for the mysterious right hand motifs to rise above while the repetition of open 5ths, 6ths and 7ths chords in the centre of the harmony provide an air of uncertainty.

Halfway Across the Rainbow is full of hope and optimism with a care-free feel.
 
The predominant use of the intervals of 4ths and 5ths within the lyrical melody helps convey a sense of being suspended in the air (above the rainbow) while the longer notes being placed at the ends of phrases and the use of ascending motifs also add the floating sensation.

A Castle in the Clouds is mysterious, captivating, and has an ethereal air.
 
The use of open fifths in the left hand crossing creates a sense of spaciousness that is filled by the flurries of right hand semiquavers / sixteenth notes.  The sense of vastness continues through the use of octave higher repetitions of right hand motifs that are accompanied by flowing pianistic left hand patterns.

Is it Another Fairytale? is intriguing, melancholic and wistful.
 
The sorrowful minor key melody suggests that not every fairytale has a happy ending, but there is an ambiguity in the combination of descending versus ascending motifs that suggests a possible positive outcome.  
 
Features: Ascending and descending motifs, octave repetitions, intervals of 5ths and 6ths
 
Focus: Co-ordination, spatial awareness, intervallic recognition

 
The Other Side of Silence is peaceful, poignant and has a contemplative feel.
 
The use of suspended seconds in the right hand spread chords creates a sense of floating while the contrast of ascending and descending 6ths and slow crotchet / quarter note movement in the left hand all add to the spacious and somewhat unresolved feeling.

Dream Weaving is energetic, magical and has a hypnotic quality.
 
The minimalist techniques of rhythmic displacement, inversion and retrograde applied to repetitive motifs helps add to the mysterious feel while the driving energy is achieved through the flowing left hand quavers / eighth notes.
