Find a Moment to Dream Part One is a collection of 6 piano solos suitable for pianists that are Grade 4-5 / Intermediate and above. 

 

Each piece has been carefully composed to promote piano technique, musicality and well-being.  This collection includes the first six pieces of Find a Moment to Dream.  Each piece focuses on playing and hearing relaxing piano pieces that boost your mood as you progress on your musical journey.  


 

A Moment to Dream is peaceful, tranquil and meditative.

 

The flowing pianistic left hand ostinato-style quavers / eighth notes provide a calming layer for flurries of semiquaver / sixteenth notes and demisemiquaver / thirtysecond notes to dance over.  Low open fifth pedal chords with cluster chords rising above them provide a contrast during the middle section as the nature of the dream changes.

 

Features: Fast right hand flurries, left hand ostinato-style, cluster chords

 

Focus: To work on finger dexterity, evenness of tone, chord placement


 

Be Curious and Look to the Stars evokes an other-worldly, mysterious and thought-provoking feel.  

 

The minimalist style patterns combined with the haunting right hand melody, and a range of 5 octaves, help to build an exploratory atmosphere inspired by the quote by Stephen Hawking.

 

Features: Contrary motion arpeggiated patterns, minimalistic motifs, ledger lines

 

Focus: To work on finger dexterity, stamina, coordination


 

The Movie in Your Mind is contemplative, lilting and has a whimsical air.

 

The waltz-like feel helps create a playful yet nostalgic feel that is contrasted by a stronger sense of movement in the second section with consistent flowing quaver / eighth note passages.

 

Features: Waltz-feel, dotted rhythms, octave displacements of motifs

 

Focus: To work co-ordination, rhythm, spatial awareness


 

Beneath the Moonlit Sky  is atmospheric, mysterious and has a sense of awe.

 

The hypnotic continuous quaver / eighth note motifs in the left hand provide a soothing texture for the right hand repetitive motives to sparkle over the top of to create an air of mystery and intrigue. 

 

Features: Continuous quavers / eighth notes, chords of major and minor 6ths, repetition

 

Focus: To work on stamina, co-ordination, chord placement


 

Lost in a Reverie is nostalgic, contemplative and enigmatic.

 

The mix of syncopation and flurries of semiquavers / sixteenth notes helps create a dream-like quality that is further underpinned by the use of major second chords in the left hand that help to create suspended harmonies. 

 

Features: Syncopation, major 2nd chords, semiquaver / sixteenth note motifs

 

Focus: To work on rhythm, chord placement, finger dexterity


 

Once Upon a Dream is dreamlike, optimistic and conveys an inner-strength.  

 

The left hand crossing over the right is contrasted with flowing pianistic patterns that the lyrical right hand melody, with elements of syncopation, rises above.

 

Features: Hand crossing, pianistic left hand patterns, spread / arpeggiated chords

 

Focus: To work on finger strength, maintaining a consistent pulse, spatial awareness
